God's Plan

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,

Isn’t it great news to realize that God has made plans for us?  We use that term quite often.  We ask, “Do you have plans for the weekend?”  At my house I will often ask my wife, “What are our plans for tonight?”  Sometimes we “plan a trip.”

Those plans can be interrupted.  We can make plans for the evening only to have an emergency that can make the plans impossible.  We had plans last Thursday and some wonderful people from our church interrupted those plans by surprising us with a meal and by watching our kids for the evening.  They had a plan for us.  They prepared, schemed, and carried it out.

God has a plan for each of us.  He gives us a glimpse into that plan.  He says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Those plans get interrupted when we go our own way, but make no mistake about it, the plans that God has for us are plans for good.

No matter what TV station we turn to we will hear of the plans that are made by the people of the world.  It often produces much concern or even fear.  Many times the news folks are simply guessing.  When you broadcast 24 hours a day you have to come up with something. The spirit of the age would cause each of us to worry and at times become depressed.  We have plans but it looks like they are going to be interrupted.  But when the Lord Jesus makes plans for us, the world cannot interrupt them.  They can only be interrupted by decisions we make to go our own way.

So, while you watch the evening news remember, His plans for you are for a future and a hope. He is planning and preparing for that future.  He is setting things in order.  That’s the real news and it’s not a guess.
